Integrations
Integrations
Tools every product needs, built for Self Host Layer and installed in one click, each running like one of your apps.
What they are
Integrations in the sidebar lists tools built for Self Host Layer: Links, a link shortener, and Analytics, cookie-free web analytics. Every tool comes with Self Host Layer: there's nothing extra to buy.
Each one runs like your own apps:
- its own Linux user and systemd sandbox, with a memory limit;
- a free address with HTTPS, and your own domains on its Domains page;
- backups of its data, logs, metrics and cron jobs, on the same pages as a project.
Nothing is built on your server, and nothing new runs as root.
Install
Press Install next to a tool. The panel opens its first deployment, and you can watch it come up:
- The server downloads the tool from the catalog (
get.selfhostlayer.com/catalog.json), only from the catalog's own address. - It checks the file against the catalog's sha256 before unpacking anything.
- The tool's own user unpacks it with no network access.
- It starts beside nothing, answers its health check, and goes live on its free address.
Installed then lists it with its version and status. Open visits it, and Manage opens its pages.
Update
When the catalog has a newer version, Installed and the tool's Settings page show Update to …. An update:
- backs the tool's data up first, when backups are on (Backups in the sidebar), and stops if that fails;
- downloads and checks the new version the same way;
- starts it beside the old one and switches traffic once it's healthy, so nothing goes down.
The catalog is read every 10 minutes; Check again reads it at once.
Settings and removing a tool
A tool's Settings page has its version, its memory limit (down to the least it needs) and, for some tools, settings of their own. How it starts and runs comes with each version.
Uninstall (its Settings page; type its name to confirm) stops it and removes its user, files, unit, cron jobs and Caddy site. Its data/ folder is kept in /var/lib/layer-agent/archive/ unless you say otherwise, and backups in your bucket stay.
