Terms of service
Last updated October 30, 2026
These terms cover your use of this website, selfhostlayer.com, and of the Self Host Layer software. By using either, you agree to them.
Early access
Self Host Layer is in early access. Features may change, and things may break between releases. Try it on a server you can afford to rebuild before you rely on it, and keep backups.
Your server, your responsibility
- You install and run the software on servers you control. You're responsible for them: their security, what runs on them, their backups, and what your hosting provider charges.
- You're responsible for the apps you deploy and the content they serve, and for following the laws and the terms of service that apply to them.
- Don't use the software to run anything illegal, or to harm other people or systems.
The software's license
Your use of the software is governed by the license that comes with each release.
Services you connect
The software works with services you choose and connect yourself, like GitHub, Let's Encrypt, your DNS provider, your backup storage and your alert channels. Your use of each one is governed by its own terms.
No warranty
The website and the software are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we're not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, profits or revenue, arising from your use of the website or the software. Keeping backups of your data is up to you; the software includes encrypted backups for this.
Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top says when they last changed, and using the website or the software after a change means you accept the new terms.
